4 favorite magazines

Bust is a total hip, underground feminist magazine based in New York. They aren't afraid to be raunchy or racy with their topics. They include everything from DIY ideas and guides, musicians, actors, politics, fashion, etc. A single issue can feature everything from Kathy Griffin, to making homemade popsicles to the essential PMS guide. I love this magazine. A couple women started a book of collected female stories and became inspired to launch a magazine to embody and empower women.

Venus is a Chicago based magazine. It is like another bust, but not as feminist and raunchy. It focuses on women in music, art, film, and fashion. I love it because they steer clear of the mainstream and usually feature up and coming artists and musicians. Every issue I am sure to stumble upon someone that I love, but don't see in other magazines. It always keeps me up to date with the current street scene, indie culture and trends. I especially look forward to their greatest female guitarists of all time A-Z list.

Lula=love... oh how i love Lula. Lula is a UK based magazine that only has two issues a year because they are so intricate. Each issue is like a journey through a whimsical fashionista dream. There aren't many articles, but it is rather an art book of lovely photography, fashion and designers. I could pretty much cut out any page of Lula and frame it.

Aperture magazine is a beautiful photography publication. It features new and unpublished work by well know and emerging artist from all over the world. Its photographs always remain powerful, experimental and inspiring. The first issue I experienced was almost ten years ago. It featured a spread on Louisiana and the effects of the DOW chemical plants. It was so moving, beautiful and sad that I have been hooked ever since.
